About Mileage Claim Calculator

Mileage Claim Calculator is a free tool for UK workers to calculate their HMRC-approved mileage allowance for business journeys made in their own vehicle. We help employed and self-employed individuals work out accurate claims using current approved rates.

HMRC Approved Mileage Rates

HMRC sets approved mileage allowance payments (AMAPs) that cover the cost of fuel, insurance, repairs, and vehicle depreciation when you use your own vehicle for business purposes. The current rates for cars and vans are:

Motorcycle mileage is paid at 24p per mile, and bicycle mileage at 20p per mile, regardless of the number of miles travelled.

Who Can Claim

Both employed and self-employed workers can claim mileage allowance. Employees can claim if their employer pays less than the HMRC rate, or does not reimburse mileage at all. Self-employed individuals can claim mileage as a business expense against their profits.

How to Claim

Employees can claim through Self Assessment or by submitting a P87 form to HMRC. Self-employed individuals include mileage claims as business expenses on their Self Assessment tax return. In both cases, accurate records of all business journeys must be kept.

All calculations are performed in your browser. No journey data is stored or transmitted. Rates are based on current HMRC approved mileage allowance payments.
